Something that begins to weigh on me this time of year is all the good cheer, the happy Christmas cards, the forced joy, the commercialization of Christmas, until I finally reach a point where I start to take delight in glimpses of the Grinch. Scrooge begins to appeal to me more than Santa Claus and Tiny Tim just gets annoying. Don’t even get me started on the Nutcracker…
Also, I am keenly aware of how much grief and loss comes to people this time of year. The winter months are often hard on everyone, but especially the elderly. I lose a lot of clients this time of year, people I have grown very fond of, people who have had long, good, lives and peaceful transitions, but still, it is always sad to say goodbye.
In biblical times people would tear their clothing, wear sack cloths and ashes, grieve and lament…
